Cotta (1808-1879) in Freiberg, dem er für dessen "neueste Gesteinslehre" dankt. ". Namentlich hat mich Ihre Auffassung d. Eruptiv-Gesteine ungemein interessirt, obwohl ich . an ältern Ansichten auch schon so fest gewachsen bin, daß ich noch nicht in Allem völlig einstimmend mich erklären kann. Namentlich will mir die Behauptung noch nicht recht klar werden, daß die Unterschiede der Gesteine je nach der Alters-Periode ganz fallen sollen, da gerade die hier von der Untern Kreide bis zur untern Tertiäre auftretenden, von mir unter dem Namen Teschinit zusammengefaßten Gesteine wirklich eine Art Übergang von den Dioriten u. ältern basischen Eruptivgesteinen zu den neusten, den Basalten zu bilden scheinen ." - Es folgen weitere Erörterungen, auch mit Bezug auf die Forschungen des Freiberger Mineralogen August Breithaupt (1791-1873).
