Condition: Très bon état. in-8, demi-chagrin vert, dos à nerfs rehaussés d'un filet doré et d'incises à froid, caissons ornés d'un double filet doré gras et maigre en encadrement, tête dorée, couvertures conservées, non rogné (Paul Vié), 519 pp.Édition originale. Cornélius Holff est le pseudonyme de Pierre Charles, comte de Villedeuil, déjà auteur de quatre volumes, dont une étonnante Histoire de l'impôt des boissons ! Riche et fantasque, ce cousin maternel des Goncourt fonda l'hebdomadaire L'Éclair et un quotidien, Paris, dont le titre était suivi du nom de chaque jour de la semaine : Paris-lundi, etc. Les frères y firent leurs débuts de journalistes du 12 janvier 1852 au 27 avril 1853. Ces trois jeunes gens s'adonnèrent à des critiques théâtrales, dont certaines ne manquèrent pas d'impertinence et d'esprit, qu'ils réunirent dans ce volume paru en février 1853, à 5 fr.Un des 4 exemplaires imprimés sur papier fort rose par Gerdès (toujours lui !), seul grand papier, avec deux envois successifs signés d'Edmond, le premier "à Ph. Burty, son ami", le second "avec le regret de savoir dans la bibliothèque de Madame Daudet, un livre de moi qui n'a pas été offert par moi". Cachet de Julia Daudet qui paya 46 fr.-or, à la vente posthume de Burty en mars 1891 ce volume, adjugé 1700 fr. le 9 juillet 1941, à la vente Daudet. Ex-libris manuscrit Alain Barbier Sainte Marie.Pour mémoire, un autre exemplaire sur papier rose avait été adressé par les auteurs à Jules Janin le 19 février 1853 : "Souvenir et reconnaissance. E. et J. de G. Nota bene : Nous ne sommes pour rien dans le titre".Bonne reliure de Paul Vié, avec les couvertures conservées : le second plat porte un rappel de la sortie d'En 18. et annonce celle du Camp des Tartares (sic !) des mêmes auteurs.
