Holl studierte in Wien Medizin und wurde schon 1872 Demonstrator im Anatomischen Institut unter Hyrtl, dann weitere 2 Jahre unter dessen Nachfolger C. von Langer und im Physiologischen Institut bei E.…W. von Brücke. Nach seiner Promotion 1876 wurde Holl Operationszögling in der I. Chirurgischen Klinik unter J. von Dumreicher, ohne seine anatomischen Arbeiten zu unterbrechen. Dann wandte er sich ausschließlich der Anatomie zu und wurde Assistent bei Langer. In dieser Zeit beschäftigten ihn wohl unter dem Einfluß seiner vorangegangenen klinischen Tätigkeit vor allem die Mißbildungen. Auch "Die Operationen an der Leiche" (1883) gehören in dieses Grenzgebiet. 1881 habilitiert, wurde er noch im gleichen Jahr als Supplent der Anatomie nach Innsbruck berufen, 1882 wurde er dort Ordinarius. Er gilt als der Begründer der modernen Anatomie in Innsbruck. Neben seine bisherigen, vorwiegend präparatorischen Arbeiten treten solche der tierischen Histologie, der Anthropologie und der vergleichenden Anatomie. 1889 folgte er einem Ruf nach Graz; auch hier entfaltete er eine reiche Tätigkeit, so schrieb er über den Bau des Zellkörpers und des Kernes der Eizellen, über die Anatomie des Beckenausganges. Mehrere Publikationen galten der Inselregion, in der er einige bisher unbekannte Details finden konnte. Seit 1905 beschäftigte sich H. auch mit der Geschichte der Anatomie, insbesondere mit den anatomischen Werken Leonardo da Vincis. Auch die Anatomie des Vesal wurde von ihm eingehend analysiert. Zu seinen Schülern zählten: J. Bubenik, H. von Haberer, M. Hofmann, A. Jarisch, W. Kraus, H. Merlin, M. Pfaundler. Sprache: deutsch.

Moritz Holl (1852-1920), "am 22. Juni 1852 in Wien geboren, studierte daselbst und war bereits als Student Demonstrator bei Hyrtl un…d dessen Nachfolger Langer. Gleichzeitig arbeitete er bei dem Physiologen Brücke und veröffentlichte noch vor seiner 1876 erfolgten Promotion zwei nerven-anatomische Arbeiten. Als junger Arzt trat er als Operationszögling bei Dumreicher ein, wandte sich aber nach zweijähriger Tätigkeit bei der Chirurgie ausschließlich der Anatomie zu. Zunächst Assistent bei Langer. 1881 Priv. Dozent, wurde er noch in demselben Jahre provisorisch, ein Jahr später definitiv Ordinarius des Faches in Innsbruck, 1889 in Graz, wo er am 1. Dezember 1920 starb. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche Arbeiten aus allen Gebieten der Anatomie - seinen Namen führt die HOLLsche Grube (Fossa insulae, Arch. f. Anat. 1902, S. 14), anthropologische sowie historische Arbeiten über Vesal und Leonardo da Vinci. Selbständig erschienen: "Die Operationen an der Leiche", Stuttgart 1883, , Über die bildliche Darstellung der Lage des menschlichen Beckens", Graz 1894, "Ein Biologe aus der Wende des 15.
