The author draws on a variety of sources, including Jesuit Relations, Norse Sagas, and English colonial records, to provide a comprehensive account of this fascinating period. One of the central themes of the book is the role of the Catholic Church in Maine's history. The author argues that the Jesuits played a crucial role in exploring, settling, and evangelizing the region, and that their work had a lasting impact on Maine's development. The book also examines the complex relationship between the French and English settlers in Maine, and the ways in which their rivalry shaped the course of Maine's history. This book is a valuable contribution to the historiography of Maine, and it will be of interest to anyone interested in the history of the Catholic Church in North America, or in the early history of the United States. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
