Signatures: pi² a-b² B-2X⁴; C2 missigned 'D2' In good condition, with rubbing and wear to boards, primarily along edges and corners. Restored hinges remain tight, with text block bound well. Fresh front end-page is signed by binder on bottom edge (verso). Light marginalia remnants at front. Nicely illustrated throughout, with various woodcut engravings, including a foldout adjacent to page 73. Tear to bottom of page 45/46. Vertical half-title reads "Dr. Holyday on Iuvenal." Barten Holyday's (1593 2 October 1661) first translation of Juvenal; his translation of Persius was first published in 1616. Leaf 2X4 recto blank, verso bears docket title: Dr Holyday on Iuvenal. Engravings chiefly by David Loggan (16341692). Title page printed in red and black with double-lined border; printer's device on title page; head-pieces; initials. Preface to Persius's works contains a biography of the author. "Aulus Persius Flaccus his satyres" has a separate title page with imprint: Oxford: Printed for J. Adams, and F. Oxlad Senior, and F.
