PROTECT PROTECT, which ran from October 25, 2008 to February 1, 2009 before traveling to two other locations, features a foreword by Madeleine Grynsztejn and Sam Keller, an introduction by Elizabeth A.T. Smith, as well as essays by Joan Simon and Elizabeth A.T. Smith, plus Benjamin H.D. Buchloh's interview with the artist. The inscribees were strong supporters of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, establishing the Edlis/Neeson Art Acquisition Fund, which, among other projects, underwrote the Holzer commission "For Chicago" (2007), a piece that strongly echoes the work in this exhibition. She begins with the disturbing thoughts of the rapist murderer handwritten in German on the lift-up card attached to the magazine cover. Inside Holzer features close up photographs of phrases in English and German written in ink on naked flesh.
