Signed first edition of this monograph published in conjunction with a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago - inscribed to noted Chicago art collectors and museum supporters Gael Neeson and Stefan Edlis. PROTECT PROTECT, which ran from October 25, 2008 to February 1, 2009 before traveling to two other locations, features a foreword by Madeleine Grynsztejn and Sam Keller, an introduction by Elizabeth A.T. Smith, as well as essays by Joan Simon and Elizabeth A.T. Smith, plus Benjamin H.D. Buchloh's interview with the artist. The inscribees were strong supporters of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, establishing the Edlis/Neeson Art Acquisition Fund, which, among other projects, underwrote the Holzer commission "For Chicago" (2007), a piece that strongly echoes the work in this exhibition. Index page reads Sex murder: A picture cycle by Jenny Holzer for the magazine of the Suddeutsche Zeitung Titling her work Lustmord (Sex Murder), Holzer addresses the systemic rape of women, with fragmented text reflecting the perspectives of the perpetrator, the rape victim and witnesses. She begins with the disturbing thoughts of the rapist murderer handwritten in German on the lift-up card attached to the magazine cover. Inside Holzer features close up photographs of phrases in English and German written in ink on naked flesh.
