Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Chicago. The Lewis Publishing Company. 1890. First Edition. Thick Quarto (11 x 8). 808 pp. including addenda. The book includes sections and chapters on typography, soil, climate, John A. Sutter and his fort, the California Revolution, county government, criminals, railroads, and businesses. Also important chapters on charitable institutions, Sacramento City, townships, and finally, biographical sketches of important county residents. There are full-page illustrations of important landmarks and prominent individuals. This book is personal to me. It has been in my family since its publication, and my paternal great-grandfather, John Bradford Cave, was one of the men presented in the group of biographical sketches; the family line ends with me. The book is bound in its original black leather with gilt titles and decorations on the spine and front cover. Black and gold pattered end papers. There is light cover wear, and the book is in very good condition.
