The Committee secured funding from American Jewry to assist their beleaguered brethren facing extreme hardship during the First World War. Despite facing great peril including arrest and deportation, the author, a resident manager of an Anglo -Palestine Bank in Jerusalem, managed to disburse funds for general relief, food supplies, and the establishment of vital services such as soup kitchens and a medical bureau. Reports on the distribution of Passover matzo, and the author's journey to Cairo to procure vital food supplies show the extraordinary lengths to which the Committee went to alleviate the suffering. The Committee's efforts helped sustain the beleaguered Jewish community in Palestine through the horrors of the First World War and provided support as the community rebuilt during the post-war era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
