Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate crushing to spine ends, with splitting, fraying and loss to the head, tail and joints. Front board feels loose. Gilt lettering has become dull. Staining to vellum surfaces. Book has a slight forward lean.

Internally unmarked endpapers with elaborate gilt decoration around margins of fixed ones; second blank has a 1 cn tear on right margin. Foxing largely limited to photo frontis. Joseph Pennell (1857-1926), a friend of Whistler and Sargeant, established himself as a leading etcher of landscape and architectural prints. Dudley Hardy (1867-1922) remains known for his influence on English poster design, with his best-known being Gaiety Girl (1893).
