Contact seller4-star sellerOctavo, softbound (stiff, full-color illus. white wrappers), 232 pp. Very Good, with wear to wrappers. From lower cover: Every state in our great nation has one area so famous -- and so fabulous, that the entire state image is built around this wonder of nature. The mountains, deserts, geysers, rivers, valleys -- and their inhabitants, are blazoned on many a state seal. Florida has the Everglades, palm trees and Indians on her state seal -- and the heart of this glamorous Florida image, is the Tamiami Trail. A wondrous place, which every visitor to Florida must see, at least to answer the neighbor's questions back home. It was left to that "master of the adjective," Will Horne, to people this heartland with characters who, for the benefit of enchanted readers, live out the day by day existence in this unbelievably exciting tropical paradise. The characters created by Will Horne to give life and meaning to the Tamiami Trail country include Cindy, the girl baby, who grows to wondrous womanhood and becomes, to the Indians, Princess Hun-ra-con, daughter of the God of the Winds (This is Hurricane Country). Grandma and Grandpa Dawson, two of the best characters ever to come from Will Horne's typewriter; Johny Cypress and the Indians, unforgettable as they move thru the land of buried treasure and cypress swamps populated with the vast variety of animals in the wild. Cindy and the big white stallion are expert guides to the reader as they open the way to Spanish Treasure and ghostly skeletons, partially lifting the veil of the mysterious glades. Tales of the Tamiami Trail is a great souvenir to take back from Florida. A beautiful piece of writing, to illustrate the unbelievable things a visitor to Florida's Heartland, the Tamiami Trail, will see. Florida, Floridiana, Florida History, Americana. bslic. …

Paperback. Condition: New. American political observers express increasing concern about affective polarization, i.e., partisans' resentment toward political opponents. We advance debates about America's partisan divisions by comparing affective polarization in the US over the past 25 years with affective polarization in 19 other western publics. We conclude that American affective polarization is not extreme in comparative perspective, although Americans' dislike of partisan opponents has increased more rapidly since the mid-1990s than in most other Western publics. We then show that affective polarization is more intense when unemployment and inequality are high; when political elites clash over cultural issues such as immigration and national identity; and in countries with majoritarian electoral institutions. Our findings situate American partisan resentment and hostility in comparative perspective, and illuminate correlates of affective polarization that are difficult to detect when examining the American case in isolation.…
