Hoser (1770-1848) studierte zuerst die Rechte und dann Medizin. Als er im Jahr 1798 den Doktor-Grad erreichte, wurde er praktischer Arzt in Prag. Noch in der Zeit seiner Studien nach seiner ersten Riesengebirgsreise im Herbst des Jahres 1793 entschied er sich, alle bisher verstreuten Erkenntnisse zusammenzufassen und Interessenten am höchsten Böhmischen Gebirge ein Kollektivwerk seiner Natur und Bewohner darzubieten. In den Jahren 1794-1796 setzte er das Kennenlernen des Riesengebirges fort und bereitete die Herausgabe seiner Monographie vor.- Mit der ersten ausführlichen "Karte des Riesen-Gebirgs nach den besten Hülfsmitteln und neuesten geographischen Ortsbestimmungen entworfen von Dr. Jos. C. E. Hoser. 1806. Gestochen von Ch. Junker in Wien" (im Kartenbild vereinzelt gering braunfleckig).- Das Riesengebirge ist das höchste Gebirge Tschechiens und Schlesiens. Es erstreckt sich an der Grenze zwischen der polnischen Woiwodschaft Niederschlesien und Tschechien und erreicht auf der Schneekoppe eine Höhe von 1602 Meter.- Vortitel zu Band I mit folgendem Drucktitel: "Anleitung das Riesengebirge auf die zweckmässigste Art zu bereisen".- Vortitel und Titel mit kleinem Exlibris-Schildchen.
