The last reference in the book is to the April 16, 1940 no-hitter pitched by Bob Feller for Cleveland against Chicago.Staple bound booklet; 48 pages, illustrated. Six "lessons" on pitching a baseball, by the following major league pitching stars of the the early 20th century (many of whom are now in the Hall Of Fame): Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, Ed Walsh, Smoky Joe Wood, Nap Rucker, "Doc" White. Each lesson features photos of the pro. This version has a photograph of the Washington Senators Hall of Famer Walter Johnson on the front cover. Our copy has age and handling wear throughout. Staples are basically clean (one shows a little exterior rust.) Code number written in pen across top edge of front cover. Some light foxing here and there in booklet.

Very good, with some color fading and very light dampstaining to front wrapper, sticker residue to top of front wrapper, small closed tear to fore edge of front wrapper, and tiny crease to lower corner of rear wrapper. Overall, an excellent example. In this pamphlet, six legends of baseball - Christy Mathewson, Ed Walsh, Walter Johnson, "Nap" Rucker, Joe Wood, and "Doc" White - give in-depth pitching tips in six separate chapters. Each chapter includes photos of the pitchers, showing how they grip the ball and key stages of their pitching motion. Included at the beginning of each chapter is a brief biographical piece by the editor, Irwin H. Howe, who was the official statistician for the American League and a number of minor leagues.
