Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Minus. This original 1952 edition is quite rare. With a dust jacket even more so. It is not a stated first edition which is the typical way that firsts are identified with this publisher. However, given that the book is so rare and that no other seller has a copy that is being identified as a first edition, I can't help but wonder if this may be an exception to the rule. Not an assertion, just an open question. In any case, 1952 is on the copyright page and there is no other reference to additional printings. This book is in exceptional condition. The presence of the dust jacket no doubt helped. You can see the blue covers in the photos provided. They are perfectly clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright and free of wear. The book's six edges look terrific. So do the corners which have only speck-sized spots of very light rubbing, absolutely no rub-through. So I would say the only wear is very minor, a little crinkling and color fade at the very top and bottom edges of the spine. The page edges are perfectly clean. The middle page edge is deckled. All of the middle page edges are in excellent shape. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. There are absolutely no binding issues. The interior of the book looks perfect. I'm not finding any instances of soiling on the pages. They are exceptionally clean. That includes the white inside covers and end papers. I saw a handful of consecutive pages with a hint of a crease, not quite a semi-crease off their bottom corner. There are no turned-down or placeholder corner creases. There are no markings to be found anywhere in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. It is NOT ex-library. And, finally, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The very rare jacket has a few issues. You can see it in the first three photographs. The main one is the scuff on the spine which has lifted off some of the surface paper. There's also a thin crease (with a tiny spot of loss) just off the bottom edge of the front cover. There's a bit of light scuffing at the spine ends, and there's a small square tan discoloration on the rear cover which I'm pretty sure is the consequence of a sticker once being present there. The flaps are in near-perfect condition, very clean and free of wear. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. Despite its imperfections, the jacket is very solid and quite clean. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book which goes back a good number of years. From the dust jacket: 'One of the most significant projects among current experiments in the education of gifted children is described in this account of the elementary school operated at Hunter College in New York City. The book outlines in detail the goals of the school and the curriculum designed for children of unusual intelligence. The authors then describe the class organization, teaching methods and instructional resources, the organized life of the school, the school's relation to parents and the rest of the community, guidance and adjustment, and the use of the school in the training of teachers. The book concludes with a useful summary of some of the broader educational problems confronted in our school systems with this type of student. For those interested in developing this type of instruction this book will supply a wealth of suggestions for applications elsewhere. ' There's also a blurb from a Professor Paul Witty of the School of Education, Northwestern University: "thoroughly and interestingly presented. This book should be of great help to all school people interested in providing suitable educational experiences for gifted children.".
