The author's specific choice of stories and poems, pulled from world folklore, and standard works of literature, exposes children to writing techniques that have stood the test of time. That the lessons are adapted from well-known classics, such as Gulliver's Travels, Snow Image, Brer Rabbit, and My Shadow, provides a foundation for students to pursue these works further as they develop as readers. While the primary focus is on expanding vocabulary and comprehension, the author's ultimate aim is to ignite a love of reading, and understanding within a young audience. Through the interpretation of thought and action that may lie just beyond their reach, this book encourages a genuine literary uplift in its readers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Both 12mo, The manuscript poem, 12 lines, is signed in full at the bottom and accompanys a 2-p. letter to a Mr. Russell. There appears to be no relationship between the poem (likely a World War I composition), and the letter. Mildred Howells (1872-1966), daughter of the American novelist William Dean Howells, was herself a poet and artist. The letter, also 12mo, and containing approx. 130 words, is addressed to Mr. Russell, apparently of a publishing firm, and concerns Mildred Howell's proposed collaborative book with co-author Rose Standish Nichols (1872-1960), the landscape architect and women's rights activist.
