The staples , being rusted, are likely fragile, however the text-block as a whole is intact with no detached leaves (although the attachment of the final leaf is tenuous. There is evidence of mending neatly effected to the first leaf (just preceding the title page). The interior, while it has some shallow creasing, dog-eared corner tips, and scattered small spotting and or smudges, remains clean. On the recto of the final leaf are some penciled names and places.

"Printed on the best toned paper, adorned with large engravings in the first style of art, handsomely bound beautifully printed, the external of this volume leaves nothing else to be desired. As for the contents, they cannot but be of the highest order; the names of Conybeare and Howson will, for many a year be linked to the name of Paul as the most learned and exhaustive commentators and elucidators of his biographies. We believe that this is THE Christmas book of the Religious Tract Society and it is worthy of our warmest recommendation." - Sword & the Trowel (Dec 1866).

Pamphlet. 16 p.; 20.5 cm. 'Here it is assumed that this female labour is to be combined with all the rest of parochial machinery. In fact, throughout this paper it is distinctly contemplated as subsidiary to the Clergyman's work. It will be conceded by all that these feminine ministrations must be definitely localised, if they are to be effectual. It may also be fairly contended that they are peculiarly adapted to the parochial system. A Deaconess is more likely to be stationary than a Deacon.' (p. 10) Good, removed. Prior owner's signature at head of title-page.
