The work is the second part of vol.1 of the first run of the Archaeologia Sinica series, published by the Academia Sinica, in Taiwan. This volume details the discovery and excavation process used by Li Chi and his team at the famous Shang dynasty archaeological site near Anyang, in Henan province. Profusely illustrated throughout with numerous charts, topographic and stratographic maps of the site, and figures shedding light on the physical nature of the site. The volume also includes a section of 21 plates of b/w photographic reproductions on glossy paper, acting as a visual record of the excavation work, methods used and natural surroundings. Text in Chinese. Includes an English-language title page. Binding with some light scratches and smudges to the covers, with some minor rubbing to the corners. Interior with sine light smudges and water stains to the titles pages. Library bookplate at the interior front cover. Binding and interior in very good condition. *(??) Li Ji or Li Chi (1896-1979), was a prominent Chinese archaeologist, who is considered to be the founder of modern Chinese archaeology. He conducted important work in proving the historical foundations of the Shang Dynasty, and was later the first director of the Archaeology department at the Academica Sinica and the National Taiwan University.
