First Edition
Stapled Wraps. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Offered is a first edition, first printing, of "The Dilemma of the Obsolete Man: A Lecture Given at the Unitarian Public Forum, May 14, 1954" by H. [Harper] H. [Hubert] Wilson published in that year by the Unitarian Public Forum out of Los Angeles, California. A left-stapled pamphlet measuring 6" by 9-1/4" and containing 12 pages including front and rear covers. A few brief excerpts from Professor Wilson's talk: "Many people have expressed concern for developments in this country, especially because of evidence that traditional values of the society no longer seem to generate the kind of response that they once evoked" - "In these observations it is my intention to suggest some possible explanation of the reasons for this situation and, in particular, to warn against any facile assumption that the disappearance or discrediting of any individual politician would in itself indicate a reversal of contemporary trends" - "In short, we may describe the 'obsolete man' as one who is a self-reliant, self-respecting humanist democrat, who neither mistakes himself for a god, nor bows down before the dictates of the sacred majority. He respects others because he respects himself. He is commonly a non-conformist; he may even - perish the thought in these times - believe on occasion in civil disobedience." Light wear, sunning along edge areas of outer covers. H. [HARPER] H. [HUBERT] WILSON (1909-1977) was a professor at Princeton University's Department of Politics from 1947 to 1977. A fierce defender of civil liberties, he once described himself as a "conservative, anarchist and socialist.".
