Front cover illustration laid down on top of olive green book cloth. Black corners added afterwards. Shelfwear and scuffing. Pictorial endpapers have reinforced hinges. Title page has perforated ownership stamp from the Shaker Heights Board of Education. Library pocket affixed to the inside back cover and with handwritten name of the book on the inside back cover as well. Title page dated 1930, as is the copyright page. Illustrated throughout. 77 pages. Text is in French. This copy signed on the half-title page by Hugh Lofting, after the inscription 'avec mes sentiments distingue'. Wear to exterior includes minor bumping to spine ends and corners as well as one small bump to bottom edge of front board, minor fraying to cloth at head of spine, light rubbing, fading to title on spine, and light browning and a few light spots to spine. Slight rolling to spine. Front interior hinge is just barely starting though binding remains very strong and tight. Minor browning. Light sporadic foxing to margins. Minor brown soiling to pages 22 and 23, as pictured. Text is otherwise clean and bright with wonderful black and white illustrations by the author throughout. Full color frontispiece. Tissue guard is partially detached. Illustrated end papers. Author's inscription to half title page reads "Yours sincerely Hugh Lofting, Utica, February 1922."
