Ces trois lettres du peintre Humanité René Philastre donnent de précieuses informations techniques sur la création de décors pour l'Opéra. Ainsi, il évoque les commandes de matériaux : «Notre fin de mois nous avait forcés à remettre l'acquisition de bois mais une rentrée de fonds nous met à même de les envoyer aussitôt que vous voudrez. Le sapin est arrivé.» Des questions de stockage se posent également : «Nous devons vidé la place demain samedi pour des élections [ ?]. Monsieur Lembert a donné l'ordre de vider l'atelier. » Les problèmes de délais sont récurrents : «Le rideau n'a pas été commencé entendu que la maquette ne nous a été remise qu'hier soir et cachée dans le cabinet nous ne l'avons retrouvée qu'à peu près à l'heure où nous sommes partis.» Il demande également au directeur de l'Opéra de bien vouloir prier M. Coutas de lui remettre les différentes maquettes : celles du rideau, des décors différentes scènes, etc. Enfin, il relate les visites avec Charles-Antoine Cambon à Louis Véron, directeur de l'Opéra jusqu'en septembre 1835. Dessinateur, il créé notamment décors et costumes pour l'Opéra, l'Opéra Comique et le Théâtre-Lyrique, en collaboration avec Charles-Antoine Cambon. Un grand nombre de ses dessins est conservé à la Bibliothèque nationale de France.
