Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: None as Issued. Revised & Enlarged Editon, 4th Printing. Text/BRAND NEW & Bright. Illustrated soft cover/VG; strong & sound w/faint creasing to upper front corner & trace fading to spine, and price sticker to rear. Reprint of the Revised & Enlarged Edition of 1965 from the 1934 & 1948 Editions. Epsicopal clergyman Ross Calvin (1889 - 1970) went to New Mexico in 1927; a six-month visit for health reasons extended to 43 years! As he considered man's history in the arid Southwest and the adaptability of desert plant and wild life particularly during drought, "the influence of the Sky Powers" became increasingly apparent. Calvin saw clearly, ". that which man determines here has never at any time very completely repealed that which Sky Determines". This perspective gave rise to the title of this classic work which demonstrates the powerful role of climatic matters in the development of both natural and cultural patterns of New Mexico. Peter Hurd (Illustrator) (illustrator).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very scarce, very clever book, both educational and charming, wonderfully illustrated by Peter Hurd with stylized lettering by Flavia Gag. This book serves as a clever alphabet book, where everything, from the animals in the zoo to the food they eat, begins with P. The book is in Very Good condition with some tip wear and wear on top and bottom of spine. Back cover is starting to separate, but the book remains clean and bright. The Very Good dust jacket, which matches the book cover, has the original $1.00 price intact. There is some minor wear at top and bottom of the jacket spine and a few small chips and a small closed tear on the back, but still bright and clean.
