Wraps. Condition: Very Good. The Orchard Gallery, Published 1995. Wraps, 36 pp.; 24 cm; illustrated with color reproductions of Duffy's paintings and works on paper, including a double-page reproduction of Frieze. In Very Good condition. Sage green illustrated paper covers reproduce a Duffy painting of a woman draining a colande…r. Light bumping to edges and corners with mild shelf and edge wear. Staple bound, binding tight. Hint of toning to page edges. Otherwise unmarked. Catalogue for an exhibition at the Foyle Arts Centre, Derry, in August 1995, commissioned by the Orchard Gallery and City Council Arts. Duffy (b. 1959) was raised in a Catholic family in Stranmillis, a Protestant district of Belfast; Tess Hurson's poem here is titled "The White Hens of Stranmillis." The new work was concentrated almost entirely on paper, among it Frieze, oil on wax paper, Japanese paper and thread at 116 x 600 cm, reproduced across a double-page spread. Hilary Robinson's essay reads the paintings through Laura Mulvey and Marina Warner, taking up Duffy's substitution of bin lid, wreath and toasting fork for Britannia's shield, helmet and trident. The Orchard Gallery was set up by Derry City Council in 1978; its first director, Declan McGonagle, was shortlisted for the Turner Prize for the programme he built there. Chronology, exhibition list, awards, bibliography and collections at rear.
