Evans 20449; Smith, Friends Books p.83. Huson Langstroth was an Irishman who immigrated to Penn's colony and joined the Friends Meeting at Darby, PA. Langstroth served as a Quaker minister in Europe and in South Philadelphia. "He wrote and published a Watchword to Friends. It breathes a spirit of pure love, and manifests his heart-felt concern for the safety and preservation of Friends, at a time when it might be said, "In quietness and confidence shall be your strength." - Friends Miscellany, V.2, 36-41 p. Langstroth's statement of peace, love and faith was made in an especially trying time when the tenants of Quaker pacifism were being strained by the demands for armed revolution against the British monarchy.
