First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 12mo First Edition: viii + pp 14-376 = leaf + index [(378) 379-382 pp (even #s on recto for index). Cont. leather with decorative gilt spine and black leather label. Considerable wear on boards, edges, tips. Prize bookplate inside front cover. Although the title page indicates Jolie Ãdition Ornà e de Planches the book, with its inconsistent page numbering, lacks plates yet appears to be complete. This book absent from the usual sources seems to be quite rare. There is listing of an 1841 edition (Bolton, A Select Bibliography of Chemistry, 1492-1897, First Supplement, 1899, p. 31), also quite rare. Huttemin was Professor of Natural History, College Royale d Angers.
Angers, Launay-Gagnot, 1838. 12mo (16.4 x 10.0 cm). 382 pp.; one large folded plate, contemporary full mottled calf, Spine rich ornamental gilt, with red morocco label with gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Marbled edges. = An extraordinary, very rare little book, written by a "Professeur d'histoire naturelle au College Royal d'Angers" of whom nothing else is known. The book is no-where recorded on the internet and there are no copies in any library, except, perhaps, the library of Angers, if still extant. Pagination jumps from viii to [13] without any apparent loss; and it is supposed to be ornamented with plates, but has only one, be it quite large and folded. Again no plates seem to be missing. There is a rather long handwritten dedication on the half title, signed by A. L. Alexandre. Boards much rubbed, with the spine near-intact but especially the front board leather largely shaved, some damp-staining to the top margin, especially in the rear. Otherwise a very good copy.
