One elephant folio colour-printed poster, sized 30 x 40 in. (faint fold creases from original mailing, minor age toning, slight wear to fore-edges), still a VG copy w/ bright colours. First edition of this original striking poster depicting a US Navy dive-bomber attacking a Japanese aircraft carrier, with image of a Navy dispatch from Admiral Ernest J. King superimposed in the right fore-ground. Dating is determined by King instated as Commander in Chief by Roosevelt following the disastrous Pearl Harbor attack under Admiral Stark, and he was instrumental in urging the Pacific Campaign offensive against the Japanese Navy through 1942-1943, and was elevated to higher tank at end of 1944. Whitcomb (1906-1988) was noted for his glamour paintings of women for vaudeville posters, and later Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, and Ladies Home Journal, who served in the US Navy during World War II from 1944-1945.
