Poussé par l'exigence d'un ardent besoin d'expression, il ne cessera plus de sculpter, d'abord en Belgique où il émigrera à l'âge de 20 ans, puis en France à partir du début des années 1950, et jusqu'à la fin de sa vie en 1994. Les trois auteurs s'attachent à nous montrer Ianchelevici en croisant leurs regards : le style de l'artiste est tantôt épique (il a rendu ses lettres de noblesse à la statuaire monumentale) tantôt intimiste. Mais il porte constamment en lui on ne sait quelle "allusion à l'infini", pour reprendre l'expression du poète Robert Vivier, qui fut l'un de ses plus fidèles amis. L' uvre sculptée et dessinée qu'il nous a laissée est vaste et sa visée de grande ampleur. Ce beau livre de référence qui lui est consacré en embrasse les multiples facettes. Il nous invite aussi à suivre ce grand artiste sur les chemins du dépouillement et de l'harmonie. "À la base de toute création, il y a le sentiment", disait Ianchelevici. Cette volonté passionnée d'exprimer des émotions, de la manière la plus directe, ne l'a jamais quitté.
