Publisher's orange hardcover in photographic dust-jacket priced £2.95 net to front flap. With a fine presentation note to endpaper; Hong Kong / March 5-78 (House) // For Foreign Angel Joan / & Foreign Devil David // Always happy memories / and happy reunions / -as Ian Fleming once told me, "we are only / as good as our friends" // Love to you and / the family // Foreign Devil Dick Hughes (72 today). Minor dustiness/spotting to edges else near fine, in a crisp, clean near fine wrapper. Account of reporting in Japan and China in the 1950s and 1960s. Australian journalist Richard (Dick) Hughes was a close friend of Ian Fleming, working as the Far East 'Mercury' correspondent for the Foreign Desk of the Kemsley Newspaper Group (The Sunday Times). A trusted colleague with a keen eye for a story, Hughes secured one of the great scoops of the Cold War era, breaking the Burgess & Maclean spy story. He acted as Fleming's guide on both his trips to the region, researching Thrilling Cities and You Only Live Twice, which Fleming dedicated to him. The agent 'Dikko' Henderson was based on Hughes, both in physical description and personality. This lively autobiography includes the above essay on Fleming and 007. From the Bibliographical Archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled ownership to endpaper. His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert, p.645. Signed.
