In addition to weather and the movement of the seasons, the book includes information on botany, ornithology, astronomy, the rustic calendar, etc. Thomas Furly Forster (1761-1825) was an English botanist. "His natural history journals, which included weather prognostics, were published by his son in 1827 as 'The Pocket Encyclopædia of Natural Phenomena'." --Oxford DNB. His son, Thomas Ignatius Maria Forster (1789-1860), wrote on various scientific and philosophical topics. He was a proponent of phrenology, a term he is credited with inventing.
