Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Octavo, 441 pages, black cloth, pictorial endpapers Schwezoff wrote this autobiography at age 30, but he lived another thirty accomplished years. This Soviet ballet dancer worked around the world, danced in Nijinska's company, began his own Ballet Igor Schwezoff, became a dancer for the Original Ballet Russe, did choreography for the New York City Center Opera and elseqhere, and taught at the Ballet Theatre School of New York City. Signed with his Cyrillic autograph by Schwezoff on the title-page. Illustrations by David Grey, who is also the dedicatee of this book. More than an autobiography, Schwezoff wanted to tell the world what life was like for people in the Soviet Union in the era after the revolution, and before he defected. This work bested 900 other applicants to win the prize for the best English-language autobiography submitted to H&S for 1934. He learned this harsh lesson: "It was a lesson to me not to take too much on my shoulders in future and never, never to leave the box-office unsurveyed !" -p.210.
