A complete set of the Fairy Tales, issued in 14 fortnightly parts and beautifully illustrated by Helen Stratton (1867-1961) in an art nouveau style, as is the cover design. Wikipedia says of this series that Stratton, "reached the peak of her illustration career with upwards of four hundred drawings for a finely crafted art nouveau quarto edition of The Fairy Tales." Now housed in a specially commissioned Solander box bound in a matching green cloth, with a reproduction of the first issue to sunken panel of upper board of box, and likewise the title, to the spine of box, and an internal silk tie. Each issue in stitched green pictorial stiff paper wraps. Each issue is 4to size and measures 28cm x 21.5cm. The first issue has been professionally repaired to the spine, which has been reinforced with Japanese tissue paper and the gathering resewn. Parts four and 13 have also been resewn. Part two has a split to cover along the spine. There is some foxing, to some pages, mostly parts one, two and three. Thereafter, the foxing diminishes markedly. Intermittent spotting to page edges. Issue 14 has a couple of small nicks to edges of wrappers. Otherwise, the remaining copies are in excellent condition, with signs of light handling and use only.
