      Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First Edition. In French. Single volume, 16mo, 6 3/4" tall, III + 254 + 20 vignettes (all present) pages, gilt titles and gilt fore-edges, decorative red cloth. A fair copy only, covers loose, back strip cloth loose at front hinge, hinges broken and binding shaken, paper lightly yellowed and still supple but with scattered foxing throughout and a few marginal notations. Still a good reading copy and because of the better quality of the paper, binding might be restored. Note: shipping overseas is presently more expensive than the price of this volume.

Shiny white patterned e/p's. Front Hinge splitting and re-glued. All extrmities rubbed/fraying/chaffed and/or scraped. Previous owners inscription on e/p, dated 1873. Otherwise no date found. Ten full page black and white steel engraved tissue guarded plates and lots of wood engraved vignettes in the text. A little very light Foxing. Frontispiece - Le Petit Poucet, with tissue guard.       FIRST EDITION 1867, French text, hand coloured title and many delightful HAND COLOURED text illustrations to every page. Marie is a lively, naughty, careless little girl who gets into lots of trouble. Like Matilda she catches fire, she floods the house, falls in the pond, ruins her clothes and toys. A charming story for young children. 305 x 223 mm, 12 x 9 inches, dark blue morocco grained cloth, wonderful gilt illustration to upper cover, repeating title illustration of Marie ill-treating toys and pets, blindstamped decoration and ruled frame to both covers, 47 pages. Two very superficial scrapes to lower cover, a couple of minor marks to top corner of upper cover, faint slight foxing to prelims, occasional faint foxing within, couple of inner joints cracked (binding sound).
