Clean interior except for a prior owner's mark on the front free endpaper and some foxing along foreedges and around preliminaries' margins; sewn binding shows a slight separation at the title page, otherwise secure; gray cloth hard cover shows inward turns at free corners, a tiny tear at the front fore-edge, small gray spots scattered across the rear, darkening of backstrip and gilt titles, and softening with a few threads just starting to fray at spine ends, otherwise well-kept. xxviii, 185pp. This is a reprint of the 1906 edition from the Series of English Idylls and includes 15 of C. E. Brock's original 24 illustrations. Those included highlight both his skill as an illustrator of historical themes and his gentle sense of satire (evident from his work on Punch magazine).
