Hardback, bound in the original red cloth with gilt titling to spine. Beveled edges. Fore-edge untrimmed, top edge gilt. 23 × 14.5cm, 121pp [1]. This copy dedicated and initialled by the author to the ffep, "Ernest Weber, with H.R.D's kind regards. Jan 29 / 06". A collection of poems of ghosts (The Ghost at Shinglesea, The Rime of the Phantom Head), romances, comic verse etc, written by Liverpool born engraver Henry Richard Dickinson (1839-1917). All illustrations have been tipped in and many drawn specifically for this book. The impressive list of artists includes notable illustrators of the age: Alexander Stuart Boyd, Gordon Browne, Frank Dadd, Frederick Charles Dickinson (1876-1967, the author's son who became a successful commercial artist), Charles Dixon, William Hatherell, Henry Marriott Paget, A J Balliol Salmon, as well as the author's own contributions. Condition: This copy is in good plus condition for age. There is a little bleeding from the binding to the top of the fore-edge, some sunning to the top edge of the front board and light rubbing. However, a rare book with no recorded copies in the British Library, COPAC etc. Signed by Author(s).
