Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Illustrated by Nedda Walker (illustrator). First Edition. A nice stated first edition copy, with the colorful jacket intact and preserved in a mylar Brodart cover. The cover art is all there, but there has been ill-advised repair with cellophane tape both on the front and the back. The mylar cover lessens the effect of this considerably. The book itself is clean and tight, with a dampstain on the front and back endpapers, but nowhere else (I don't know how that worked, considering that they are separated by the entire text!) The book was printed under wartime standards, and the paper has tanned, but is not brittle. Some pages have built-in creases that seem to have been inherent in the paper, adding texture. A pinhole mark is noted on page 123.

Presumed first ed., 347 p., clean and unmarked anywhere; paper strong and only mildly age-toned but there is some foxing in gutters; binding tight; unfaded red boards have slight bumping of corners and wear along spine despite presence of pictorial d.j. showing children of many different nations and races and ethnic costumes holding U.S. flags. The t.f. is faintly smudged and has open tears at corners and near spine. Brodart cover has prevented further wear.

Spine covering is missing showing internal stitching. Cover barely attached to book block. Paste down image curling away from boards. Inscriptions to front free end paper. Age toning throughout. Scuffing to boards. Some light soiling to inside pages/edges. Bumping/chip to back board bottom edge. Book enclosed in plastic sleeve to prevent further damage.
