Hardcover. Condition: Very Good Plus. Illustrated in Color by Harold Brett, And Duo-Tone Prints of Scenes from the Photo-Play Produced by Maurice Tournier (illustrator). This is the Madge Bellamy Edition. You can see the covers in the photographs provided. The front cover looks terrific. The color in the lettering on the spine has faded away. You can read the underlying lettering. The rear cover looks very good as well. There is a bit of light soiling. There is very little wear on the covers. Remarkably, there's no rubbing on the corners, no wear on the edges. There is a little crease below the top rear corner. Perhaps even more importantly, this thick 351 page book is square, straight, and very solidly bound (I saw only one very thin space between two facing pages, each securely bound). I turned over all the pages in the book making sure that all the illustrations (23 of them) were present. They are. And they are in excellent condition. The text pages are also in excellent condition. You'll find only an occasional spot of soiling. There are also probably close to ten pages with a fingerprint off the edge. The title page has a tiny spot under the 'e' in Scenes. There is a light scratch/scuff on the middle page edge. It created a nick on the edge of about 30 pages (no tears). I did notice that they were two small thin tears coming up off the bottom edge of two pages, neither reaching the print. I also noticed that there were around 20 consecutive pages with a light impression/crease in the same spot, where something might have pressed against the pages. It's quite minor, more an impression than a crease. My overall impression of the 351 pages is that they are in Very Good condition, the great majority of them look perfect. They are also, surprisingly, fairly bright. There are no markings in this book. No attachments. A previous owner penned her name near the bottom right-hand corner of the first front end paper, a page which, with the front inside cover, forms a large illustration. There is absolutely no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. Richard Doddridge Blackmore, known as R. D. Blackmore, was one of the most famous English novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century. Lorna Doone was originally published in 1869. It is a romance based on a group of historical characters and set in the late 17th century in Devon and Somerset, particularly around the East Lyn Valley area of Exmoor. In 2003, the novel was listed on the BBC's survey The Big Read.
