LIMITED EDITION numbered 35 of 100 copies printed on large Japanese paper, this being an English language edition after the first French edition of 1887 with many of the decorative elements re-worked for translation. Folio, 11 3/4 inches tall, iv, 160pp, 160 illustrations including richly colored chromolithographs, a few appear to be aquatint, etchings and heliographs, copperplate engravings which are printed in varied single colors (black, red, purple, etc.). Bound in half-blue morocco ruled in gilt, spine with raised bands, 4 of the 6 compartments elaborately gilt decorated, the others ruled and lettered in gilt, this over blue cloth and marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, the original rather plain cloth front panel and spine pasted onto leaf both recto and verso at rear (rubbing around joints and to corners, two rear upper corners bearing bumps and heavier rubbing with hinges and joints solid, and overall the leather is supple and attractive, very good or better, internally clean and tight with a mild toning at page edges).
