Contact seller4-star sellerSoftcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Mike Mars in Orbit by Donald A. Wollheim, illustrated by Albert Orbaan, is #4 in the Mike Mars Space-Adventure Series. Published by Paperback Library (Book# 56-998), this is the first thus edition of the mass-market paperback (August 1966), originally released as a hardcover in 1961. The book is in Good+ condition. The covers are in good shape, with a light crease on the front, some shelf wear, and a small clipped upper corner of the rear cover. The colorful front cover depicts Mike performing an EVA outside his Mercury-era capsule while orbiting Earth. The binding is square and tight. A small organizational stamp, neatly marked out, appears at the bottom of the first "teaser page." The interior pages are tanned from age but clean and unmarked. The story, set in the early days of space exploration, is an exciting tale of a young American flier taking extraordinary risks to orbit Earth, capturing the era's spirit of adventure and wonder. There's no futuristic warp speed or alien species herejust raw, pioneering space travel, with its immense challenges and dangers. One notable element of the series is its attempt at inclusivity for the time, featuring Johnny Bluehawk, a Native American character who is Mike's closest friend and ally, as well as a sharp-tongued woman reporter adding depth to the secondary cast. The plot includes corporate intrigue, a hired assassin with a grudge, and a protagonist who must outsmart his enemies and demonstrate unparalleled skill to survive. Themes of loyalty, bravery, and ingenuity make this book a nostalgic yet timeless read for fans of space history and adventure. The book will be carefully packaged for shipment to protect it from the elements.
