CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States is the first and oldest Civil War Fraternal Organization in the United States. It was founded on April 20, 1865. The members, all officers who had served in the US Army, presented papers dealing with their experiences and observations during the Civil War. These collected accounts are informative and add insights to events, both large and small. The Indiana Commandery's publication of 33 chapters of personal reminiscences, most of the accounts were written by Indiana veterans who served in the Civil War. This single volume is the only one published by the Indiana Commandery. This copy presented by Assistant Surgeon General W.H. Kemper, who contributed a paper, The Seventh Regiment.
