Paperback. Condition: New. Light, Grass, and Letter in April is the first book in English to appear since the great Danish poet's death in January 2009. Light (1962) and Grass (1963), her first published works, introduce her genius for the music of everyday speech, and her approaches to the themes she'd pursue throughout her lif…e: the primacy of nature, the enigmatic boundaries between the self and the other, and the role of language as a mediator between human experience and reality. Letter in April (1979), Christensen's most intimate book, examines love and loss, self and loss of self, echoing musical structures developed by the French composer Olivier Messiaen. It was written in collaboration with the Danish artist Johanne Foss, whose accompanying drawings helped to catalyze the poems. Johanne Foss (illustrator).

Bound in the original black cloth, lettered in shiny gold on the spine. From the Dust Jacket: "THE ABSENT SHAKESPEARE challenges the notion that Shakespeare is 'faceless' in his plays In challenging the idea of a playwright invisible in his work, the book ends with a discussion of Hesiod and OEDIPUS REX, contrasting the myth available to Sophocles and Shakespeare. Building on recent textual studies of KING LEAR and HAMLET, which compare Folio and Quarto differences, Mirsky sees them not as just an opportunity to view the playwright revising toward more skillful staging, greater complexity of plot, and ambiguity of character. The process of revision also exposes a personal Shakespeare The book presents a dramatist maturing in time, grappling with incest, patricide, filicide, erotic love, and the inevitability of death. It finds this naked Shakespeare in Macbeth and The Tempest as well, expressed in the riddles of these plays. It sees the center of gravity in these plays as Shakespeare's meditation on his life and the world beyond.". First Edition. Hardcover. Fine condition/Very Good dust jacket. Soft cover. Condition: New. 136 pp. Ill. (Mainly col.). For the first time, a line is drawn throughout Inger Johanne Grytting's art. Extensions presents a larger part of Grytting's artistic work, which ranges from early figurative oil paintings to more recent abstract drawings and paintings. In the drawings, exploration of the l…ine is often an important theme. The pencil drawings are made as lines and parallel lines drawn close to each other. These form grids and column formations, creating a dialogue with the surface of the paper. In Extensions, the reader witnesses Inger Johanne Grytting's development and transition between the figurative and the abstract. Grytting explores the basics of the drawing medium, namely the line itself, and its possibilities. The images can be experienced as both minimalist and expressionist, and can be seen as an expression of an inner landscape. Inger Johanne Grytting was born in 1949 in Svolvær and has roots in Tromsø. As early as 1972, she moved to New York City, where she has been living. Grytting's studio in Manhattan has been a natural gathering place for visiting Norwegian artists for many years. Her art can be seen as a link between original American art movements (concept art and minimalism) and Norwegian art life.
