Caligraphed text on one page with full color chromolithographs of the Pickletons on the opposite page. Story told and drawn by Ingles Rhode. Color pictorial paper over boards with a light blue cloth spine. Gift inscription on half-title page as follows: "For Mummy (?) with | love from Kitty (?) | Christmas 1898." Previous owner's name in ink at top of half-title page: Mary A. Harrison. Paper on boards darkened and lightly soiled, some minor stains on front cover, a couple of small raised places where the paper has bubbled slightly, corners worn through, edges rubbed in several places, three black stains on rear panel (see photo), spine darkened but intact, interior pages slightly darkened around the edges, binding is whole and tight, all illustrations in near fine condition, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. In remarkably fine condition given its age and fragility. Just a delightful rhyming story of three naughty boys with fine illustrations by Ingles Rhode--a famous children's book. [Since the gift inscription is dated 1898, I assume this is the first edition published in 1897.].

London, Dean & Son Limited, 160A Fleet Street, E.C. 1906, First Edition. large format, 10¿ x 12 ¾¿ (25.5mm x 32mm) Book Condition: Good. Hardback book, paper covered, pictorial boards. No date but 1906 according to Copac. 14 pages (including endpaper pastedowns) of alphabetised nursery rhymes. Charming, period illustrations by Ingles Rhode in colour throughout. Boards are quite worn and heavily bumped and grazed to corners. Some scarring as a result of glue drying to binding inside but the only actual damage is one, small, closed tear to the last page. First page is a little grubby, centre pages just starting to loosen but otherwise the interior is in remarkably clean and well preserved condition, particularly given its age and children¿s audience and is entirely free from marking, writing colouring, or any other previous owner¿s names or inscriptions. Rare.
