First published in 1904, the first edition featured illustrations, with a full-page image of corn dodgers and biscuits, and full-page photographic images of African American cooks by Alvin Langdon Coburn. Those illustrations were not published in this revised edition, perhaps because of wartime conditions, and is the only notable difference, (aside from the compiler's Preface to New Edition), in the contents between the two editions.
