"Moll Flanders", he claims, "is the fountainhead of the vast flood of what we have come to call novels. There had been nothing like it before." The text used here is that of the first edition which has hitherto been very difficult to obtain; Dr. Herbert Davis contributes a note on it.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***A first printing in this edition, with a new introduction by Bonamy Dobrée, complete in its original dustwrapper, with drawing designed by Mervyn Peake.
