Full bound black cloth hardcover with gilt lettering to the spine. Clean inside and out, with no writing or other marks. Binding is solid and square. Collects numerous articles by Irving based on long experience in designing, constructing, riding and writing about motorcycles in Australia and overseas. From the front flap: "Following the success of Rich Mixture, another volume of Phil Irving's erudite articles has been published in similar vein. Once again, the man recognized as the world's leading technical writer covers engine design, brakes, steering, carburation, etc with plenty of anecdotes thrown in to enrich the mixture." And Irving notes in the Introduction: "As most of you who read this sorry of book will undoubtedly know, running an engine with a rock mixture will usually cause the exhaust pipe to emit black smoke. With black smoke coming after a rich mixture, it would seem obvious (to me anyway) that a follow-up book to last year's "Rich Mixture" should be titled "Black Smoke".".
