First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good to Very Good. 1st Edition. Issues of Eaton's The Philanthropist bound in paper-covered boards with leather backstrip, covers badly worn and detached, text block firm and measuring approx. 8x5 inches; original endpapers present but detached and age-toned, with no useful ownership information; each issue contains 8 pages and is clean and unmarked with some very minor dampstain at the extreme edges. This pamphlet apparently issued weekly on Mondays; the following issues are included: No. 16 for Monday, July 13, 1795; Nos. 20 and 21 for August 10 and 17; Nos. 25 through 43 for Sept. 14, 1795 through January 25, 1796. This last issue No. 43 may have been the final issue since it contains Index as pages 7-8. NOTE that bound in the place of No. 42 is "The British Cato" of 8 pages in the same format as the other issues, so it may be concluded that this title was distributed as No. 42. Thus this volume contains a total of 22 issues. There are a few light pencil notations and underlines, nothing intrusive.
