Stinehour designed the book, using Monotpe Bembo and Centaur types. The frontispiece portrait of Isaiah Thomas, a copperplate stipple engraved for the "Freemason's Magazine" of Novermber 1811 by W. R. Jones of Philadelphia, was pulled from the original plate ow in the American Antiquarian Society. The title page eagle was drawn specially for this book and is based on elements of two type ornaments from the Binny & Ronaldson type foundry in Philadelphia, whose types Thomas used in printing this work in 1810. An original leaf from that edition, printed by Thomas in Worcester, is included in this Imprint edition. The text paper is Imprint, made by Monadnock Paper Company. The book was bund by New Hampshire Bindery in Concord, New Hampshire. This is copy number 903 (Numbered and signed by McCorison.).

The first true compilation of the complete laws of Massachusetts published the same year as the ratification of the Constitution. Called the "Baskerville of America" by Ben Franklin, Isaiah Thomas (1749-1831), founder of the American Antiquarian Society, was an anti-British radical and leading publisher as well as the author of History of Printing in America, with a Biography of Printers, and an Account of Newspapers (1810). Boards quite tender, though holding, worn, circular stain to front board, chips to rear board, leather separating, spine label lacking, head and tail bands chipped, dampstain to free front endpaper, scattered foxing and toning, small worm hole to rear pastedown, impressions quite strong with only the odd crease. A good copy.

Here is a Very Fine First Limited edition that was published in 1970 in an edition of 1950 copies of which this is number 1526. The book as well as its slipcase are in Very Fine condition. It is printed on rich cream-colored paper and is a true classic of the history of printing in the American Colonies. Published by the Imprint Society the book still has information regarding their other publications laid in. Bound into the book is an original page from the First edition of 1810. This volume is one of the most important references we have on this subject and it is also wonderful to read. The book is fully indexed and runs to 650 pages not including the Limitation page which is numbered and signed by the editor. This is a volume that almost always provokes interest among collectors. I have given you a picture of the Table of Contents page so that you can see how the book is organized. Anyone interested in early American history will truly enjoy this book. There is light foxing and soiling to the front cover, and the condition is very good.
