Das Buch beinhaltet in einem Volumen mehrere Werke: erstens, die hier im Titel aufgeführten Institutionen des Justinian, der Corpus Iuris Ciuilis (Corpus Juris Civilis, CJC, oder Codex Justinianus), eine Kodifizierung des gesamten römischen Rechts, die von dem Ost-Römischen Kaiser Justinian im sechsten Jahrhundert in Auftrag gegeben wurde. Im direkten Anhang zu diesem Werk sind auch die Fragmenta Veteris Iuris Romani abgedruckt, also die Gesetze der zwölf Tafeln (Leges XII Tabularum). Die Ausgabe folgt laut Titelblatt den Anmerkungen des Glossatoren Franciscus Accursius. Der Teil der zwölf Tafeln folgt den Konjekturen des Jacobus Cuiacius. Dieser Teil beinhaltet 4 Blatt mit Titel und Inhaltsverzeichnis (unpaginiert), dann folgen 488 Spalten. Zweitens folgt: "Corporis Iuris Ciuilis Pars illa quam uulgo Paruum Volumen uocant." Dieses enthält die Gesetzesgebung Justinians nach dem Jahr 534, welche nie in einer neuen Zusammenstellung in das Einheitliche Werk der Institutiones aufgenommen wurde. Dieser Teil beinhaltet 4 Blätter (inklusive Titelblatt, unpaginiert) und 362 Spalten. Es folgen 5 unpaginierte Blätter: "Tituli legum Longobardorum" und "Index legum Longobardorum". Viertens, eine Reihe von Inhaltsübersichten: "Promptuarium Vniuersi Iuris Ciuilis, hoc est, Indices Generales totius Iustinianei Corporis." (1593). Diese beinhaltet folgende Indices: "Index omnium Titulorum seu Rubricarum in Vniuerso Iuris Corpore compraehensorum, breui et facili methodo concinnatus." Letztens, noch ein umfangreicherer Index: "Uniuersi Iuris Ciuilis Rerum, Verborum et Sententiarum, tam contextus quam glossarum insigniorum Index.", mit 78 unpaginierten Blättern. Blind geprägter Pergamenteinband der Zeit mit echten Bünden. Auf den Buchdeckel sind wohl fürstliche Wappen zu erkennen. Nicht einheitliche Seitenzählung der verschiedenen Bände in diesem Buch. Zweifarbiger, schwarz-roter Druck. Das Buch ist durchgängig zweispaltig gesetzt. Es handelt sich um eine drucktechnisch sehr aufwendige Auflage, in der der juristische Text den zentralen Platz der Seite auf beiden Spalten einnimt, aber meist erstens von zahlreichen Kommentaren umgeben ist und zweitens mit Notizen am Rande versehen. Jede Seite beinhaltet ca. 95 Zeilen (des kleiner gedruckten Kommentars). Der Gebrauch der zwei Farben ist auch durchgängig und wird auf fast jeder Seite angewandt.
