Hardback. Condition: Fine. Some books merely discuss motorcycles. Others parade them. Motor Cycle Cavalcade ?and yes, the title alone is already doing a magnificent amount of work?belongs very firmly to the second category. This is not just a book about motorbikes. It is a cavalcade , which suggests procession, spectacle, mechanical pageantry, and a great many machines passing before the reader in orderly but exciting succession. Written by Ixion and published in 1971 by SR Publishers, this is one of those gloriously specific motoring titles that could only have emerged from a world in which motorcycles were still treated with the mixture of seriousness, nostalgia and reverence they so richly deserve. The word ?cavalcade? gives the whole thing a faintly ceremonial air, as though we are not simply looking at motorcycles, but witnessing their dignified advance through history under the approving gaze of enthusiasts in sensible jackets. And what a splendid pen name, too: Ixion . Not merely an author, but a motoring alias of the old school, the sort of name that sounds as though it should be attached to an Edwardian columnist, a seasoned road tester, or a gentleman who has very firm views on magnetos. It lends the whole enterprise exactly the right atmosphere. This is not a book assembled by marketing departments or lifestyle editors. This is a book from the long, oily, honourable tradition of people who genuinely care about motorcycles and assume that you probably do too. That is the real charm of books like this. They come from an era when enthusiasm was allowed to be deep, unapologetic and highly specific. No one felt obliged to broaden the appeal by adding celebrity anecdotes or pretending that motorcycles were chiefly about personal branding. They were about design, engineering, character, history, performance, and the peculiar emotional hold that certain machines exert over otherwise reasonable adults. Motor Cycle Cavalcade almost certainly understands all of this, and if it doesn?t, the title has tricked us beautifully. There is something especially appealing about a 1971 motorcycle book because it sits at a fascinating point in the timeline. Old enough to look back on earlier generations of machines with affection, but still close enough to the classic age of British and European motorcycling to retain the smell of the thing. This is not yet the fully modern world of sanitised nostalgia. It is much nearer the real noise, grease, chrome and mildly alarming practicality of the machines themselves. A book like this is less a retrospective than a continued act of devotion. And of course, there is a lovely irony in the phrase Motor Cycle Cavalcade itself. Motorcycles, for all their speed and noise, are here rendered into a bound volume and made to sit still. A cavalcade that proceeds at the rate of page-turning. The machines may once have roared, rattled or stormed along roads in clouds of heroic inconvenience, but now they move in orderly print, one after another, preserved for admiration rather than use. Motion converted into stillness, speed into documentation: one of the quieter triumphs of motoring literature. As sold by Crappy Old Books, this copy is in Fine condition, which feels both impressive and faintly unfair to lesser books. A 1971 motorcycle title surviving in Fine condition suggests a life of remarkable protection, as though some previous owner understood perfectly well that this was not something to leave lying about in a shed beside oily rags and loose carburettor parts. It has reached the present in near-pristine form, which gives it an added air of ceremony. A cavalcade, after all, should arrive looking smart. There is something especially satisfying about finding a specialist book in such lovely order. It allows all the original design, typography and period confidence to come through properly. You are not merely buying the content; you are buying the surviving object, a little time capsule from a world in which motorcycle publishing had its own tones, assumptions and visual manners. Fine condition gives the book a kind of quiet swagger. It has lasted. It knows it has lasted. And it is ready to be admired all over again. For collectors of motorcycle books, enthusiasts of classic motoring journalism, lovers of mid-century and post-war transport history, or anyone who enjoys highly specific books with grandly confident titles, this is a gem. It is likely full of exactly the sort of informed, affectionate seriousness that makes old motor-cycle books so irresistible. They are not merely about machines. They are about a whole culture of motion, mechanical faith and cheerful impracticality. So this is more than a motorcycle book. It is a procession of machines, an act of historical enthusiasm, and a reminder that there was once no shame whatsoever in producing a handsome volume simply because motorcycles were interesting and deserved a proper tribute. Which, to be fair, they do. Motor Cycle Cavalcade is for readers who like their history mechanical, their admiration unembarrassed, and their books just a little grand in title and tone. A fine old procession, now neatly parked on your shelf. Condition: Fine. Crisp, handsome and improbably well-preserved, which is more than can be said for many of the bikes it may celebrate. Sold by Crappy Old Books.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, set in 12th-century Persia during the reign of the Seljuk sultans, follows Alroy, the young, handsome, and arrogant self-proclaimed 'Prince of the Captivity'. Forced to pay annual tribute to his oppressors, Alroy is determined to lead his people out of bondage. When, in a fit of rebellion, he murders an oppressive official, he is forced to flee into the desert on horseback. On his way, he encounters a mysterious mentor, Jabaster, a powerful Cabalist who becomes his guide and teacher. The book explores themes of identity, revolution, and spirituality. Through Alroy's intense relationship with Jabaster and his pursuit of the divine, the author provides a nuanced meditation on how both personal belief and communal identity shape our destiny. The book concludes with an epic battle, where Alroy's rebellion plays out with stunning heroism and tragedy. This book will appeal to readers interested in religious and anti-colonial themes and the complexities of leadership and spirituality.
