Walid Izza was born in Damascus in 1934. He studied at the Syrian Military College and Wellington College and became the chief of Staff for artillery forces in the Syrian National Army. He obtained the License in Geography from the Faculty of Letters, The Syrian University, and was also the president of the National Federation for Judo. Walid Izzat studied art at the Center for Graphic Arts in Damascus between 1963 and 1967 and held four individual exhibitions at the Cultural Center in Damascus between 1967 and 1971. Part of his work is on permanent display at the National Museum, Damascus. Following his death in 1971, the Syrian Government established he "Walid Izzat Center for Applied Art" and the "Walid Izzat Auditorium" at the officer's club, Damascus. The art collection of the Epic of Gilgamesh has been declared a Masterpiece of Modern Art and a Priceless Syrian National Treasure. h17556.
