Het schetst een beeld van de ontwikkeling van ernstige en gewelddadige jeugddelinquentie vanaf de kindertijd tot aan de vroege volwassenheid, de risicofactoren die deze ontwikkeling beïnvloeden en succesvolle interventies die ernstige en gewelddadige criminaliteit kunnen terugdringen. Onderwerpen die aan de orde komen zijn onder meer: jeugdige seksuele delinquenten en hun achtergrond, etnische verschillen bij jeugdcriminaliteit, neuropsychologische aspecten van ernstige en gewelddadige jeugdcriminaliteit en de invloed van jeugdbendes.
