Glossy pictorial paper over boards in pale green marbled design, gil…t lettering, with light bumping to edges and corners and light overall rubbing. Binding tight. Previous owner's name in ink on front free endpaper. Half title inscribed to that owner and signed by the editor, J. M. Fladmark, in blue ink, and by Lord Balfour of Burleigh in black. Otherwise unmarked. Jacket repeats the board design and shows a few small nicks and light creasing along edges with mild shelf wear overall. Now in an archival quality (removable) Brodart cover. Twenty-eight papers from the Robert Gordon University Heritage Convention, held in Aberdeen in 1993, the first gathering of its kind in the city and the volume that launched the university's Heritage series. Four sections cover cultural landscapes, planning for interpretation, interpretation and presentation, and the arts and crafts. Contributors include David Lowenthal on landscape as heritage, Charles McKean on the Scottishness of Scottish architecture, Duncan Macmillan on the arts, John Purser on music, Elisabeth Luard on cooking, the Earl of Glasgow on opening a family estate to the public, and Gordon Baxter on the Baxters visitor centre. Case studies take in New Lanark, Chatelherault, the British Golf Museum and the agricultural heritage centre at Aden. Lord Balfour of Burleigh, who signed this copy, contributed the foreword as chairman of the Heritage Unit advisory board. Signed by Editor.
