The fables, written in verse, explore moral and social themes in the tradition of La Fontaine, but with a sharper Enlightenment-era wit that often veils political undertones. The typography, use of red ink on the title page, and refined presswork reflect the prestige of Prault Pà re, one of the most important Parisian publishers of the century. The book was approved by censors in 1747 (signed Danscel) and licensed for sale with privilege, underscoring the controlled but thriving world of pre-Revolutionary French letters.
